Great art is produced by great artists. Regardless of the media, the level of the artist is determined by the quality of their work. As the media evolves (water soluble oils, modern digital cameras etc) one thing remains consistent, the media itself does not produce great art. When in the 1500s, oil paints superceded egg tempera, the new media did not give birth to new masters. Masterpieces were then as they still are now, products of the masters. To be a master artist of any media, still requires an artistic eye, the ability to see thru the eyes of an artist. Master artists are earmarked by their drive, work ethic and pride. It is said that master photographer Ansel Adams often carried 80 plus pounds of photographic equipment high into the mountains to achieve the intense and compelling black and white silver prints that established him as one of the foremost photographers of any time. While digital sensors have long replaced silver nitrate plates, and the equipment has diminished in weight dramatically, Ansel Adams work still remains as the benchmark of professional art photographers.
As the world of art expands, the Haverhill Art Association will continue to grow to embrace true works of art. From Japanese Sumie to printmaking, if it takes the work of an artist to produce, we will find a place for it.
The Haverhill Art Association takes great pride in its members and the creativity expressed through their work. Following is a sampling of our members work. Feel free to follow the sub links in the sidebar for more exhaustive representations of our members. Enjoy.
