Welcome to the website of the Greater Haverhill Arts Association, the cornerstone of the area’s blossoming art scene. Since 1971 the GHAA has provided artists and enthusiasts with a sense of community as well as opportunities to share their art.

Our various artist members work in every medium: acrylic, oil, pastel, watercolor, drawing, sculpture, mixed media, photography, and printmaking. A number of them accept commissions for landscapes, still lifes, or portraits (people, pets, buildings).

One of the ways we support artists is to offer twice- monthly workshops for learners of all ages and skills. Another is to present painting demonstrations by esteemed professional artists. Both opportunities are open to the public.

Our mission is to promote art and artists and to keep art integral to our lives and accessible and affordable for all.

April 23, 2017 - Lynne Schulte Demonstraton

on Mon, 02/20/2017 - 9:56pm
Lynne Schulte was the presenter at the April demo. She shared her experience “Remembrance – Pink Chair Project”, with a slide show presentation. The project is a love story for her mother painted after her passing.

Lynne sensed her mother’s presence while painting an Adirondack chair of her mother’s favorite color – bright, knock-your-socks-off pink. After the initial surprise of that experience, Lynne began placing the chair into various locations which had special meaning to the artist or her mother.

Painting Demonstration by Steve Greco - March 26, 2017

Steve Greco painting demo March 26, 2017

Our first demonstration of the new year was wildlife artist Steve Greco who gave a most interesting demo - painting animals realistically in acrylic, with a gray wolf as his subject. An accomplished artistic interpreter of wildlife, he is also very knowledgeable about habitats and threats to species. As he painted and explained his unique process for rendering details such as fur and eyes, he talked about his experiences in the field, the importance of public awareness, and the role of the artist in the scheme of things.

An artist and a naturalist, Steve Greco believes that the natural

Robert Gablosky, founder of the GHAA, is mourned by members and the community at large. He established the Greater Haverhill Arts Association in 1971 and served on its board as president and president emeritus for 45 years. As leader, artist, and teacher, his legacy is inestimable. on Sun, 12/04/2016 - 5:15pm

We are grateful to our wonderful sponsor Nunan's of Georgetown for hosting the second annual Paint-In during January!

Painting in the greenhouse happened from 10:00am until 2:00pm on the Sundays during January with a final exhibition on January 29. We had many new artists join the paint-in this year - and a wonderful turnout to see all the art at the reception. And we thank our multi-talented artists who also entertained us with music. Be sure to join us next January!

Painting Demonstration by Steven Lush - October 30, 2016

on Wed, 10/05/2016 - 10:27pm

The October 30th demo by Steven Lush was a challenging cityscape in watercolor. His style could be called impressionistic realism, focusing on  light and how it transforms objects, using strong brushstrokes saturated with color to evoke a mood by “blending precision with freedom.” The demo was well-attended and well-received.

Steven is a signature member of the AWS, ASMA, and NEWS, and is an artist member of the RAA and NSAA; he is represented by the Maritime Art Gallery in Mystic Seaport CT, and by the Walsingham Gallery in Newburyport MA.

Demos are free to members, a donation of $5 is
