Quite basically, sculpture adds a new dimension to art. While other art forms aspire to achieving dimensionallity in the work, sculpture is defined by dimensionallity. Sculpture also has texture, shape and a variety of lusters from the course flat lack of sheen common to unpolished granite to highly polished marbles, metals and glasses. Sculpture not only appeals to our sense of visual beauty, it also appeals to our sense of touch. Good sculpture begs to be touched.
